In an OK magazine feature investigating the conditions backing those beautiful Brazilian bikini bodies, yerba maté is touted as one of the few ‘superfoods’ consumed widely for the celebrated exotic physique of S. America.
The Brazilian Bikini Body, authored by Regina Joseph, notes that the hot-bod stems not only from a rich culture and healthy cuisine, but most certainly also from an active lifestyle as well.
In addition to yerba maté, other foods include fruits such as acai, pineapple and guava, as well as coconut water, watercress and even malagueta pepper.

Laura Johannes, journalist for the The Wall Street Journal, featured a great write up on yerba maté last week, heralding its health benefits – including the presence of more antioxidants than green tea.
While she did mention the obvious need for more research in the yerba maté category, studies proving maté’s ability to aid weight loss, fight atheroselerolsis, slow the progression of arteriol plagues (Brazil study) and the presence of more antioxidant power against the cellular reactions that lead to arterial blockages than either green tea or red wine were all sited.
We recently received an email from a consumer in Nebraska that is finding relief from the side-effects of chemotherapy (3x/wk) and radiation (2x/wk) in a Maté Latte. We had never heard this before, but decided to post the email just in case it may help others.
My name is Mary age 43. I live in LaVista, NE. I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in November 2006. I elected to take chemo injections (interferon) and radiation. I cannot tell you how wonderful the Maté Latte is for settling your stomach. I drink it every day. I encourage all chemotherapy patients to try this product. Please talk to your physician and encourage patients to try this. When I am having a particularly bad day I add a touch of cinnamon on top. Please keep yourself strong by drinking a Maté Latte. The antioxidants are superb. Cancer patients need that energy and stamina. This product helps calm your nerves and boosts your metabolism. In addition, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. This product has helped lower my blood pressure. It is heaven sent. Thanks so much.
