We recently received an email from a consumer in Nebraska that is finding relief from the side-effects of chemotherapy (3x/wk) and radiation (2x/wk) in a Maté Latte. We had never heard this before, but decided to post the email just in case it may help others.

My name is Mary age 43. I live in LaVista, NE. I was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in November 2006. I elected to take chemo injections (interferon) and radiation. I cannot tell you how wonderful the Maté Latte is for settling your stomach. I drink it every day. I encourage all chemotherapy patients to try this product. Please talk to your physician and encourage patients to try this. When I am having a particularly bad day I add a touch of cinnamon on top. Please keep yourself strong by drinking a Maté Latte. The antioxidants are superb. Cancer patients need that energy and stamina. This product helps calm your nerves and boosts your metabolism. In addition, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure. This product has helped lower my blood pressure. It is heaven sent. Thanks so much.

How do you know when the Maté Latte is for real? When one of NYC’s coolest, most discerning Juice Bars says so. You can now purchase a delicious Maté Latte at one of Juice Generation’s (www.juicegeneration.com) 3 locations in the Big Apple. Choose from their selection of Maté Lattes, including Rainforest Maté and Maté Chocolatte, Pixie Maté Original Maté Latte mixed with Dagoba (www.dagobachocolate.com) organic chocolate. When asked why he decided to start serving Pixie Maté Lattes, owner Eric Helms said, “…because immediately after trying my first Maté Latte I was able to climb to the top of the Empire State Building using only those cool suction cup things that those guys that carry big pieces of glass use…I always wanted to do that…thanks Pixie Maté”.

Maté is so popular in Argentina that…

…it even appears on the road signs. This photo was taken on the side of what can only loosely be called a road in extremely rural Argentina. We were headed down to watch a sunset on the Rio Parana and couldn’t believe our eyes when we came upon this sign and another similar one. We considered it divine intervention and ended up naming our company, Pixie Maté, after what is clearly a pixie blowing her pixie dust on Maté leaves.

Welcome. Hey Hey Maté is a blog of solace from the company that brings you the cup of comfort. An attempt to capture the evolving culture of yerba maté from barista tales of what goes into the best maté latte to how the sacred sip of South America fuels people to the ends of the world (literally). Plus, some peripheral distractions that catch our fancy. Yes, Pixie Maté (Boulder, CO) is behind this operation...but when it comes down to it, Hey Hey Maté is just another way for 2 amigos to express more big love for the tea of the tree that sings the body electric. Drink Deep. You're safe here. Duane and T.J. (Nov 2006)
