This just in from Yerba Mate enthusiast and mountain biking fanatic, Walker Thompson. When not riding, Walker manages a great blog dedicated to mountain biking www.yourmtb.com
Hello mate’ lovers! I’m writing this from the road (and jacked up on mate’) so please excuse the excitement. I’m leaving Tucson, AZ having just finished the terribly terrific 24 Hours of Old Pueblo endurance mountain bike race. This is my fifth attempt at a 24-hour race and after five attempts, I learned a key secret to performance. What is my secret? Mate’ Limon. Imagine riding 16 miles surrounded by the most heinous cacti you’ve ever seen. One fall and you’re covered with NEEDLES! Then, imagine it is your 8th lap of the race and it is 2:00 am! Keep going with me here; you’re tired, cold and a bit testy. You finish your lap and to your surprise a hot cup of something is thrust in front of your face. What is in that cup? Mate’ Limon! Like I said, I’ve done five of these 24-hour gigs. I usually keep the Mate’ to the gourd to maximize the zing I get, but not this 24-hour race in the desert of Tucson. No, I realized I needed something with some light sweetness to kick start my next lap and then the next and the next… I just want to thank the guys at Pixie for making my race that nuch sweeter!
